19TH ANNUAL SAN CLEMENTE CAR SHOW

Roger Rohrdanz October 09, 2022 All Feature Vehicles

Even casual car enthusiasts enjoy a good car show in California. Or perhaps we should say that everyone in SoCal appreciates cool cars, even if they aren’t into the scene. The 19th Annual San Clemente Car Show draws serious car guys as well of course, as you can see from the collection of vehicles.

The event was produced by the San Clemente Downtown Business Association, and was staged on Avenida Del Mar in the historic downtown Village by the Sea.  San Clemente is home to almost 65,000 residents, and in close proximity to Orange County where there are plenty of custom rides. (In 1969 then President Richard Nixon bought a home in San Clemente and named it “La Casa Pacifica,” but it was nicknamed “Western White House.”

The weather was nice with temperatures in the mid 70s and blue skies after the morning haze cleared. More than 250 cars were cleverly guided into their spots on Avenida Del Mar through three entry points along the street. Surf City Main Street provided great live music all day. Along with all of the cars, spectators found a farmers’ market at the end of Del Mar, so there were fun activities for families to engage in after checking out all the vehicles.

Nestled in with the vendors was this rat truck, a 455-ci Buick-powered ’38 Ford pickup owned by Robert Wong of Garden Grove, CA.

Put a big motor (blown small-block Chevy) in a small, light car. Now let’s go drag racing with Frank Waite’s ’48 Anglia.

This smooth hot rod Graham, runs a blown small-block Chevy, Mustang II front end, 9-inch Ford rearend, air conditioning, and power windows.
Originally this ’37 Graham 116 had a supercharged straight six. It was one of 13 known to exist.

The historic downtown Village was the backdrop for more cars.
