A Recap of the Grand National Roadster Show 2024

The engines roared, the crowds cheered, and the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., came alive with the sights and sounds of automotive excellence at the 74th annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Grand National Roadster Show, presented by Meguiar’s. As the curtains closed on this spectacular event, enthusiasts and participants alike were left in awe of the incredible displays of craftsmanship, innovation, and passion that graced the showgrounds.

At the heart of the festivities were two of the custom car world’s most coveted awards – the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award and the Al Slonaker Memorial Award. Beth Myers’ stunning 1932 Ford two-door Phaeton, crafted by Roy Brizio Street Rods, claimed the prestigious AMBR title, while David Rush’s meticulously designed 1959 ‘Bespoke’ Chevrolet Impala hardtop earned the esteemed Al Slonaker Memorial Award. These vehicles, along with countless others, stood as shining examples of automotive artistry, capturing the imaginations of all who beheld them.

The Grand National Roadster Show showcased over 500 individual awards, each a testament to the dedication and skill of the builders and owners who poured their hearts into their creations. From classic hot rods to modern customs, the show floor was a testament to the rich diversity of automotive culture, with something to captivate every enthusiast.

Highlights of the event included the “Street Machines: Then & Now” display, which celebrated the evolution of street machines from past to present. Attendees were treated to a curated collection of trendsetting, historic, and unique street machines, ranging from Pro Street to Pro Touring, each offering a glimpse into the evolution of automotive design and performance.

Notable builds like Kevin Hart’s 1969 GTO and historic hot rods like the 1934 Ford “Cop Shop Coupe” delighted spectators, while special displays, including the 2024 GNRS Builder of the Year showcase, highlighted the talents of the industry’s most skilled craftsmen.

Beyond the show floor, attendees enjoyed a variety of attractions, from the Grand Daddy Drive-In featuring classic hot rods to the Hemmings.com Car Corral Drive-In, offering a unique opportunity for owners to showcase and sell their collector cars.

The spirit of camaraderie and community was palpable throughout the event, with attendees coming together to support charitable causes like the pinstriper auctions, which raised $56,000 for Teen Challenge of Southern California, a testament to the power of the automotive community to make a positive impact.

As the sun set on another successful Grand National Roadster Show, we reflected on the memories made, the friendships forged, and the shared passion that unites us all. Until next year, we bid farewell to the Grand Daddy of Them All, eagerly anticipating the next chapter in this storied automotive tradition.
