It’s time for an update on Project Green Giant! We left off doing rust repair on the cab and starting bodywork on the fenders and doors. Well, we are still in paint jail, but we’re getting closer to being able to start installing the new interior and getting the truck reassembled.
Over the last couple of months, I was able to get the fenders, hood, doors, and dash body-worked, blocked, and sprayed with color. The color we went with is Medium Green Metallic Glow, which was the color it came with from the factory. I have to say, when I was a kid I used to really not like the color, but as I started this project I figured it was only right to bring it back to its original glory. I’m not going to lie—now that I see it being laid down on the truck, I really like it. Next up will be the cab!
We also were able to get the 37×12.50 Toyo Open Country R/T tires wrapped on the 20×9 Detroit Steel D-Town Smoothies, and it has already completely changed the look of the truck! I can’t wait to see how it looks once everything is painted and back together.
Once the cab is painted, I plan to lay down some sound deadener and install the carpet, door panels, and dash from LMC Truck. Then, the TMI Cruiser bench seat will go in, along with all the new glass. While I’m in there, the new stereo system from RetroSound will go in so that we are not only cruising in style, but the sound system will also be on point.
Next, we’ll install the new 4-inch lift kit from SkyJacker so the stance will truly fit the name of the truck. Then we’ll roll it out all outside to make room for the bed and begin its repair and paint process.
There was definitely a lot more rust and bodywork than I was planning for, but as we all know, that’s just part of the process of diving into a project. Always expect the unexpected—I am definitely enjoying the whole process.
I can’t wait to continue to share the process with you all as the project moves forward. Until the next one, get out there and work on your projects!
