The 2nd Annual Solos Beach Bonanza took place on January 19-20, 2024, offering a unique blend of automotive culture and tropical relaxation. This two-day event began with an exhilarating 300-mile cruise from Miami to Key West, followed by a spectacular truck show at Gilbert’s Resort in Key Largo—a private island resort featuring 360-degree water views, three tiki bars, a beach, marina, and more.
Solos Beach Bonanza was conceived by Solomon Lunger, known as Solo, in 2023. The idea sparked during a phone call with his friend Kyle Delfel. While Kyle was experiencing snowy weather in Snohomish, Washington, Solo was enjoying 75-degree blue skies in Florida. This inspired Solo to create a destination event where friends could gather, relax, and appreciate classic trucks without the pressure of having to bring their own vehicles. The venue at Gilbert’s Resort with its 34 suites, provided the perfect backdrop for this laid-back event.
What sets Solos Beach Bonanza apart from other automotive events is its unique setting and timing. Held in mid-January in Key Largo, Florida, participants enjoy an 80-degree tropical paradise while celebrating their shared love for classic trucks. The event attracted around 2,500 participants and approximately 160 trucks, showcasing the vibrant community’s enthusiasm and support.
The highlight of the event was the cruise led by Frank from Red’s Miami, which set the tone for the weekend. The main truck show at Gilbert’s Resort was filled with various activities and attractions. Attendees could swim, snorkel, rent boats, jetskis, and kayaks, or simply relax at one of the tiki bars. The atmosphere was described by Mike Alexander, former editor of F-Series Builders Guide, as the ultimate laid-back experience, allowing him to enjoy the show with a great drink in hand from morning to evening.
The atmosphere at Solos Beach Bonanza was one of relaxation and camaraderie. Attendees shared a common interest in classic trucks, creating a welcoming and friendly environment. The event’s success in its second year is a testament to the growing support and excitement within the community. The anticipation for next year’s event, scheduled for January 24-25, 2025, is already building.
The event was made possible by the efforts of Solo and a fantastic group of sponsors, including Boostane, Solos MFG, CP Addict, DOJAMAT, FLO Air Ride, Air Lift Performance, Holley, Outcast Autoworks, PRD Design, Fat Fender Garage, Donkmaster TV, Needems Garage, Jackd Up Trucks, Ford Era, I95 Motorsports, Red’s Miami, Papi’s Garage, LGND Motorsports, and Street Trucks Magazine.
Solos Beach Bonanza also had a positive impact on the local community, with Gilbert’s Resort fully booked and locals coming out to enjoy the trucks. The event emphasizes that it’s not just about the vehicles but about the people and the shared experience.
For those interested in being part of the Solos Beach Bonanza community, the event is open to all and free of charge. Mark your calendars for January 24-25, 2025, and visit www.solosbeachbonanza.com or follow @solosbeachbonanza on Instagram for more information.
