Every year, on the first Saturday in October, ididit, inc.
6 invites car guys and gals from all over Michigan and beyond (including you, Canada) to gather at the ididit facility for a day of fun, entertainment and the opportunity to enjoy the hot-rodding life. The free event is open to vehicles from 1979 or older. Created in 1991 as a way to thank customers for all of their support and for one last hurrah before having to tuck our hot rods away for the winter, the show and open house has been growing in popularity ever since.
For a third consecutive year, Mopar gave its passionate online fan community the opportunity to select their own…
Goodie bags were given away to the first 500 registered participants as well as great door prizes donated by some of the biggest companies in the industry. Ididit even gave away a steering column gift certificate to one lucky registrant at the awards presentation.
Every year, seven beautiful vehicles drive away with the coveted ididit Pro’s Pick Award bestowed by guest judges who pick the best in class (out of seven different categories). Plus, if you think you’ve traveled the farthest to get to the show, you can enter for the chance to win the ididit Long Distance Award. NSRA officials are even on hand for free safety inspections, to ensure a rod is in tip top shape. Read more at their website: Ididitinc.com.

Speedway Motors had an auspicious start in their first Goodguys Autocross competition.
In his debut at the Goodguys Lone Star Nationals in Ft. Worth, Texas, Robby Unser took the Street Machine class in Speedway Motors’ G-Comp ’65 Nova, outfitted with Speedway’s new G-Comp front suspension kit and a full complement of AFCO coil-over shocks. The Nova is powered by a BluePrint 454-ci Pro Series small-block engine backed by a Tremec five-speed transmission, and features a host of aftermarket performance parts from Billet Specialties, Dynatech, MSD, ProCar and Weld Racing.
As you’re probably well aware, Robby Unser hails from one of America’s most storied racing families. The son of Indianapolis 500 champ Bobby Unser and nephew of Al Unser (another Indy 500 winner), Robby began go-kart racing at age 8, and by his teens was racing stock cars, sprint cars and Formula Fords. Unser won the American IndyCar Series title in 1989 and has raced in the Indianapolis 500 twice, earning the IRL’s Rookie of the Year honor in 1998. He has won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb nine times, competed in Formula D drifting events, and also worked as a driving coach.
Mopar enthusiasts selected Roger Davis and his ’34 Plymouth PF five-window coupe as the fourth and final winner in the online portion of the 2014 Mopar Top Eliminator Hemi Heritage competition.
Roger Davis is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army on active duty as a deputy brigade commander, training troops in Birmingham, Alabama. He bought the hot rod in 2012 after its previous incarnations as a yellow street rod in the ‘70s, and then a drag racer throughout the late ‘90s until 2010, posting a best run of 9.160 seconds at 143.46 mph. He spent the last two years restoring and personalizing his hot rod and won Best Mopar honors at Detroit’s Autorama earlier this year.
“Davis made changes to the car to make it street legal, including the addition of lights, wipers and a horn, and upgraded the alternator and ignition system.”
“The 1934 Plymouth PF five-window coupe is the ultimate ride for hot rodders,” said Davis. “It’s like what you see in the movie American Graffiti.”

The pre-war hot rod also received a new paint scheme along with seven painted historical Chrysler logos, new wheels and tires, a rework of the front suspension, steering and brakes, as well as a customized grille. Additional Mopar parts include a Siamese-bore Hemi four-bolt block and Mopar crank.

A panel of Mopar representatives selected 10 finalists from all electronic submissions and then provided the online community a chance to a vote for their favorites from Oct. 10-17 online at Facebook.com/mopar. Presented by Detailing.com, an online detailing supply superstore, this car show and car care expo took place at The Orange County Great Park.
The former 60-year-old Marine Corps Air Station El Toro (California) is being transformed into the first great metropolitan park of the 21st Century. The Orange County Great Park spans approximately 1,300 acres (nearly twice the size of New York’s Central Park). The park preserves Orange County’s agricultural heritage, and honors the military history of the former air base.
The car show part of Autopaluuza started at 10 a.m. The weather was warm, but most people found some shade. The product lectures and detailing demonstrations began at 10:30 and finished at 2:00 with a special talk on how to choose the right polisher. The show finished with Barry Meguiar presenting the car awards. —Roger Rohrdanz
The Christian Vintage Trailer Club presented their 4th annual event at picturesque Newport Dunes lagoon and RV park in October. All of the 50-plus trailers were being used by their owners for the weekend, and they were also on display. Most of the trailers were built in the ’30s through the ’60s. Many owners also brought vintage cars or trucks of the same year as their trailers. —Roger Rohrdanz
