Austin, Texas, recently hosted the last 2023 edition of Electrify Expo, a landmark event in North America’s electric vehicle landscape. Held at the iconic Circuit of the Americas, this festival marked its third year with more than 20,000 demo rides. Visitors experienced a diverse range of electric vehicles, e-bikes, and e-scooters, reflecting the growing appeal of electric mobility. From major automotive brands to innovative startups, the event was a showcase of the latest advancements in electric vehicles and sustainable technology—and more than ever, converted-to-EV classic were well represented. The festival plays a crucial role in overcoming a major hurdle in EV adoption – providing firsthand experiences through meaningful demonstrations and test rides.
Top automotive manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Lexus, and Porsche took center stage at the Expo, unveiling their latest electric models. BMW displayed models like the IX xDrive50, while Ford amazed visitors with the high-powered Super Van. Porsche’s 75-year legacy was celebrated with their electric offerings like the Taycan GTS.
Beyond viewing the latest models, attendees engaged in interactive experiences, including test drives on the Formula 1 race track. Brands like Polestar, Mitsubishi, and VinFast offered hands-on driving experiences, allowing visitors to feel the performance and innovation firsthand. Furthermore, educational sessions by Austin Energy and Chargely App provided insights on efficient charging, rebates, and addressed common EV myths.
A highlight of the Expo was the Electrify Showoff, featuring over 80 custom EVs, including cars, trucks, and bikes, demonstrating the creativity in EV conversions. Additionally, the unexpected appearance of the Tesla Cybertruck created a buzz, showcasing the excitement surrounding new electric models. It clearly became the highlight at Electrify Expo Austin, captivating audiences with its futuristic look, making a significant impact on visitors. In a surprising move, the Cybertruck featured in a 20-minute live Instagram stream touring the Circuit of the Americas and creating a buzz online. Interestingly, the Cybertruck’s showcase in Austin, where Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas produces it, hinted at upcoming deliveries.
At Electrify Expo Austin, the Electrify Thrill Zone offered a heart-pounding experience for adrenaline seekers. Here, Ford presented the chance to ride in the high-powered, 1,400-horsepower Ford Mustang Mach-E. Professional driver and TV personality Collete Davis led attendees on an electrifying journey, demonstrating the impressive capabilities of this electric vehicle.
Concluding the 2023 event season with this Austin Edition, Electrify Expo’s founder and CEO BJ Birtwell announced the schedule for the 2024 event. The upcoming tour will kick off in a new location—Orlando, Florida—before making its way through Phoenix; Long Beach, California; Denver; San Francisco; Seattle; New York; and eventually returning to Austin, Texas.
