In the world of OBS trucks, Greg and Carrie Nettles’ 1991 Chevy C1500 is a ride that refuses to be forgotten. This beauty has a history as unique as its look, starting its journey in Riverside, California. Originally customized by Custom Camp Vans and Services, this truck hit the streets lowered with a Belltech 5/6 drop, Boyd Tri Fan wheels, a roll pan, sport mirrors, and a billet grille. After spending years with its original owner, the truck found its way to Georgia before the Nettles family snatched it up.
The story of how Greg and Carrie got the truck is one for the books. Lying in bed, scrolling through Marketplace, they stumbled upon it randomly. A quick deposit later, Carrie was on a plane to Atlanta. She FaceTimed Greg, they checked it out, and knew it was the one. After paying up, Carrie drove the truck 12 hours back to Arkansas with the A/C cranked, just like it was still 1991.
Once home, Greg dug into the truck’s history. He found the original Belltech lowering kit from ’91 still in place. With some help from Mark Oja and Sarah Duran at Belltech, he confirmed its authenticity. The paint, a fleet blue with a silver leaf pinstripe, was still original, giving Greg a solid foundation to work with. Although the original 15-inch Boyd Tri Fans were swapped for 20-inch Torque Thrusts by the second owner, Greg had to bring back the Tri-Fans, but in a 20-inch size, to fit Little Shop’s big brake kits.
The upgrades didn’t stop there. Greg replaced the upper and lower control arms, and added new bushings, ball joints, and coil springs from Belltech. He swapped out the old shocks for Belltech Street Performance drop shocks. The ’90s sport truck vibe remained, with clear corner marker lights and taillights, a color-matched front bumper, roll pan, door/tailgate handles, and sport mirrors. A GemTop GT Classic bed cover and billet interior trim panels added to the polished look.
The truck rolls on 20×8.5 and 20×10 Hot Rods by Boyd billet Tri-Fan wheels wrapped in Nitto NT555 tires. The audio system, featuring an aftermarket head unit, Focal components, a 10-inch JL Audio sub in a custom ported enclosure, and an Audio Control D-5.1300 processor/amplifier, was tuned by Kevin Gentry for that perfect sound.
After paying up, Carrie drove the truck 12 hours back to Arkansas with the A/C cranked, just like it was still 1991.
This ’91 Chevy C1500 isn’t just a showpiece; it’s a time machine back to the ’90s. Greg and his family love sharing it, knowing it brings back memories for many enthusiasts. It was honored at SEMA in Belltech’s booth and graced the cover of their 40th-anniversary calendar.
“Big thanks go out to Carrie, Cash, Lilly, and MaKaylee Nettles, Mike Losh at Slosh Tubz, Sarah Duran, Jess Camarena, and everyone at Belltech Suspension, Chris Stafford at C/K Syndicate, Ronnie Wetch at OBS Talk Podcast, and Chris Coddington at Hot Rods By Boyd,” Greg says.
This truck’s journey is far from over, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
This truck is a true ’90s survivor, bringing back memories and turning heads wherever it goes.
