AMERICA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL ROADSTER (AND MOTORCYCLE)

Roger Rohrdanz September 28, 2022 All Feature Vehicles

Two of the highlights of the Grand National Roadster Show (GNRS) were selecting America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) and America’s Most Beautiful Motorcycle (AMBMC). As usual the competition was first class. The AMBR contenders were all beautifully crafted and built and there seemed to be no decline in quality. One thing that was particularly noticeable was that all of the roadsters looked more traditional.

The AMBR award lives up to its name and the roadster chosen each year truly is beautiful. The competition is open to all U.B.-built roadsters, roadster pickups and touring vehicles from 1937 or earlier, although most of the vehicles entered are usually based on the famous ’32 Deuce.

The AMBMC award contenders ranged from simple and clean to fanciful and extreme.  And just like their automotive counterparts, all were beautifully crafted and built. Check out some of the cream of the crop from this year’s show.

The AMBMC award went to HD Bel Air owned by Fabian Becasse of La Mirada, CA.

Spider web-encrusted ’03 Honda VTX 1800 is owned by Lee Smith of Roswell, GA.
Hard Times was built by Jimmy Todorovitch of Beaumont, CA, and is owned by Andrew Rusich.
Roseville High School shop class students designed and built this ’31 Ford roadster pickup for Paul Tregembo from Roseville, MI.

The AMBR award (and trophy) is presented by the L.A. Roadsters club.
M & M Special was a solid contender, real steel ’27 Ford channeled roadster with a suicide front end powered by a 276-ci Ford flattie motor. It’s owned by Charles Matus of Sacramento, CA.

Following the GNRS Need For Speed theme, this Gerber Special is a 358-ci Dodge-powered ’32 Ford roadster.

Bill Grant from Upland, CA, entered this vintage ’32 Ford full-fendered roadster.

Larry Maddox from Hemet, CA, brought his home-built ’32 Ford roadster with nicely finished SOHC Ford motor.

This well accessorized, nicely crafted ’32 Ford Phaeton powered by a blown flathead is driven by Paul Gommi of San Pedro, CA.

Wes Rydell’s ’35 Chevrolet Phaeton, Black Bowtie, designed by Chip Foose and built by Troy Trepanier (pictured top) is the 2014 America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award winner.

Bill Enderson built and owns Tub for Two, a flathead-powered ’23 Ford.

Owner Dan Van Auken of Havasu, AZ, calls his ’32 Ford an “old school Low Boy.” Lots of crafty mods make this Deuce special.

Check out this fiberglass ’34 Chevrolet Phaeton owned by Richard Chiarenza of Redwood City, CA.

The Goodwin Speedster is owned by Ronnie and Debera Goodwin of Smithville, TN. The ’32 Ford High Boy is flawless.
