Glendale, California is a major part of Los Angeles’ deep hot rod history.
One of the many things that makes this city so significant, especially in terms of car culture, is that it’s home to one of the largest Armenian communities outside of Armenia. Hot rodding has many Armenian legends, such as Ed Iskenderian and “Big” John Mazmanian. Brand Boulevard is a principal north–south thoroughfare in Glendale where you’ll find many interesting shops and fine restaurants. Along the five-block long car show section of Brand, all of the shops were open to the thousands of people who attended the 21st annual Brand Boulevard Cruise Night.
The more than 300 pre-1979 show cars were ushered onto Brand starting about 4 p.m. and were all in place by 5:30. K-Earth’s “Mr. Rock & Roll” Brian Beirne was on hand to meet and greet spectators. At the north end of the show, the large main stage featured Abbey Road (Beatles tribute band) and The Kingsmen (celebrating their 50th anniversary). After all of the fun and food, the show ended with exciting fireworks. It was a perfect and very full evening. Kudos to event organizers for another spectacular show.
