Say hello to this year’s OBS BG cover truck named “Bubbles,” a 1990 Chevy C1500 owned by Tim Katz, better known around the world as Skrape. This isn’t just another OBS; it’s a trip back to childhood for Tim,who is a longtime entrepreneur and current president/CEO of Black Widow Exhaust Systems. He’s also one of the founders of a brand we all know—TapoutT. Tim’s goal with Bubbles was simple: to bring back the good old days. And after a decade of blood, sweat, and gears, he’s done just that.
From the outside, Bubbles keeps things pretty stock, except for some functional mods in the bed and a wild multicolored wrap courtesy of Endless Auto Salon. It’s a look that screams fun, but Tim’s not playing around when sitting behind the wheel.
Underneath, Bubbles has had some serious work done. The chassis got a bit of a tweak before getting cleaned up and recoated. For suspension, it sports Stone Fab control arms, Aldan American double adjustable front shocks, a rear 4-link setup from Ridetech, a Minh Worx steering box, and a Boyd Welding rear mount fuel tank. This setup makes sure Bubbles handles just right. The rollers on this OBS are 18×9.5 American Racing Rodder Vintage wheels with a 4-inch backspacing, wrapped in Falken 275/40/18 tires.

Powering this beast is an LSX 454 V-8 GM crate engine that has been set back a bit in the engine bay. For the exhaust, Tim went with Black Widow Exhaust’s Angry Housewife mufflers and 3-inch pipes, and they sound nasty to any gearhead’s ears. The transmission is a T56 from Tremec, and out back, Bubbles is hiding a Currie 9-inch rear axle with 3.89 gears and a 35-spline spool rearend under the bed floor. This setup isn’t just about looks; it’s about laying down some serious power.
To bring all that power to a halt, this rowdy OBS is equipped with 14-inch Wilwood 6-piston brakes at both the front and rear. And for those handbrake turns, there’s a Wilwood handbrake with a custom-cut handle featuring the Black Widow logo.
A custom-built rollcage from Ocho Customs fills the interior along with Recaro Pole Position racing seats. In the dash, there’s a Holley Performance 12.3-inch digital dash display giving Tim all the info he needs while daily driving or competing. The steering wheel from MPI ties it all together, giving Tim full control over Bubbles.
Bubbles is a build that’s taken 10 years, but the result is a ride that’s part classic, part modern, and all badass. Tim Katz, a.k.a. Skrape has brought his dream truck to life, and it’s a testament to his dedication and passion for pure performance.
