WHEN Javier Mendoza from Ft. Worth, Texas, set out to build his 1990 GMC C1500, it wasn’t just another truck project—it was personal. Named “Doza Bros” after the bond he shares with his brother, this yellow and white stunner is a heartfelt tribute to his mother, whose favorite color was yellow. With countless hours of hard work and $25,000-$35,000 invested, Javier transformed this classic into a beautifully modernized bowtie.
The journey began with a clean slate and plenty of ambition. Javier tackled the bodywork himself, shaving the antenna and bed pocket holes while smoothing out the firewall. The truck received a custom mix of Sunset Yellow and 8624 Chevy White paint, accented by orange and super flake silver pinstripes. The result? A two-tone finish that stands out in the vastness of OBS trucks at any custom truck event.
Under the hood, Javier swapped in a 4.8L LS V8 from a 2005 Chevy, complete with ICT motor mounts, Dirty Dingo front accessories, and a custom harness. The engine was built for performance with a Texas Speed 228R cam, ported heads, and dual valve springs with titanium retainers. LS3 injectors, Speed Engineering headers, and a Flowmaster FX exhaust with 3-inch pipes give the truck a throaty growl that commands attention. Paired with a Stage 3 4L70 transmission and a Circle D 2800-3200 stall converter, this Doza Bros build is as quick as it is smooth.
For Javier, Doza Bros is more than a truckÑit’s a rolling testament to family, craftsmanship, and a love for the build.
The chassis also received a serious overhaul to give this OBS the perfect stance. A 6/10 drop was achieved with Aldan American coilovers, Stone Fab narrowed control arms, and a Twisted Metalworkz 4-link kit. The Raceline Alamo wheels, measuring 22×8.5 up front and 24×12 in the rear, are wrapped in Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tires for a bold finish. Pro Performance 14-inch brakes and a Little Shop Mfg rear disc conversion ensure that the truck’s stopping power matches its performance.
Inside, the factory bench seat was rewrapped in tan velour, and custom door panels and Dakota Digital gauges were added giving the cab a clean, modern feel. Javier even painted interior pieces to match, adding custom touches like billet shifters and molded-in speakers.
Javier has debuted the truck at local shows like Bandas y Trocas, with plans for a turbo or ProCharger in the future. For Javier, Doza Bros is more than a truck—it’s a rolling testament to family, craftsmanship, and a love for the build.
