Is EV conversion sustainable?

Motortopia Staff August 02, 2024 Press Release

EVs are considered to be better than ICEs; they have several advantages over ICEs, such as:

  • Zero emissions: EVs produce zero tailpipe emissions, while ICEs produce harmful pollutants such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter.
  • Renewable energy: As the grid shifts towards renewable energy, EVs can run on clean energy, reducing their environmental impact even further.
  • Better fuel efficiency: EVs convert about 60-80% of the electrical energy from the grid to power the vehicle, while ICEs only convert about 15-30% of the energy stored in gasoline to power the wheels.

Now, let’s be real; emissions are created during both the production of EVs and the distribution of the electricity used to fuel the vehicle. And while batteries play an important role in decarbonization, ignoring their environmental costs will only aggravate them.

Featured Project | 1985 Mazda RX-7

1985 Mazda RX-7Paul wants the car to run better than it did as a “base” RX-7 model. Performing like the GSL-SE would be even better, delivering 135 horsepower, 133 ft-lb of torque @ 2,750 RPM, and a top speed of 106 mph. He doesn’t want to participate in the conversion. The vehicle is in Ottawa, Canada, and he is willing to ship his car to a shop in the US for conversion.
