Although Covid has pretty much creamed most SoCal Car Shows (and Cars & Coffees) over the last year, many have continued to slide through and prosper. But our Museum (The Murphy Auto Museum in Oxnard, although closed as of today and is soon to re-open), has been one location that has managed to keep our spectacular outdoor event stable, thanks to being a 501c3 and the support of many in the hobby.
MUSCLES & MOJO at the Murphy is easily one of the best Cars & Coffee Events in SoCal due to its tight location, lack of nearby housing and attractive peripherals. The Museum itself has a collection of 40+ Classics and Kustoms and the show (which is every 1st Sunday and soon to be every 1st and 3rd Sundays starting April 2021 from 8-10am) brings in an amazing array of Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Sleds, Classics, Muscle and so much more. There’s music with M.C. Ken Vela and amazing swag from the store including kustom pot holders, masks and my Coloring Books.
Plus, everyone gets die cast!
This last event in March saw not only cool cars, but some truly unique people. The Wrench Nation Podcast Show with Frank Butkus-Leutz and Susie Wong came all the way from Arizona to do live interviews and spend the day talking cars with Murphy Museum Director David Neel and myself, WIKD Kustoms Ken Vela, Sculptor/Artist Kathie Lawrence and the amazing builder/artist Custom Mikes from Riverside! We had a blast perusing the cars and live-streaming.
During the event, we would bring out certain cars (1938 Ford Convertible) and motorcycles (Boss Hog and BSA) to drive and experience with the help of Valarie Vasquez and Bradley Paull, plus the show was saturated with free coffee, donuts and “the die cast red bag of doom!” Even the dogs were plentiful.
Among the cars were classic Lincolns, Kustom Plymouths, restored Impalas and an incredible Rambler Wagon. Even a stunning Tri5 Chevy with suicide doors! In many ways, this particular car event is an art show. The artisans are the builders, designers, stripers and painters much like the Fireball Gallery inside the museum. But each month the show gets better and better as this one celebrated St. Paddy’s Day with Green Car VIP parking and a visit from the Santa Barbara Woodie Club. We even had the King Tonga Tiki Lounge open!
Pretty much everyone was wearing green along with the dogs! Next month, the show is actually on Easter! White cars, Easter egg hunt and more as THEME is what we do best.
I’m so grateful to be among such amazingly creative people in the car world. Muscles and Mojo will continue to thrive in a big way for the 805 area, but if you’re down south, east or north, the show is definitely worth the drive. Coming from the south is PCH and all its beauty and from the north is the 101 beach side. A stunning drive for all automotive enthusiasts.
Prepare to have a really good time…
