Modifying and Wheeling a New Generation of the Toyota Tundra

Speed Metal is an automotive event dreamed up by Terra Crew partner James Holguin and his team. Their vision was to have an event that ANY automotive enthusiast would be stoked to attend and participate in. Well, their vision has become a reality—and then some.

The event, held in Adelanto, California, Stadium and Event Center, consists of three categories: off-road, drift, and mini-moto. The venue also hosts a vendor area, food, and a “Hard Park” truck show filled with nicely built prerunners, drift cars, and other vehicles.

The off-road category was completely open for anyone to participate in. The guys at Terra Crew set up different classes so just about anyone could have some time on their 5-mile course. These classes consisted of Sketchy Dudes (No cage class, stock), Bro-runner (V-6 or leaf sprung), Wanna Be TT (V-8 linked), Buggin Out (Baja Bug), and Buggy Dork (unlimited open wheel). Each class had the chance to run the course multiple times during the day. Some people were able to get 15-plus laps in during their class’ session!

In between the sessions out on the desert course, the big boys would come out to play on the “Trash Track”—a loop created by the official Terra Crew track builder Sean Fogle. This track featured a 300-plus-yard whoop section, two big sweeping turns, and two huge road gap jumps where the exhibition vehicles could jump up to 200 feet with 15-20 feet of height.

Mini-moto practices, heats, and finals were running throughout the day with an open track for RC enthusiasts to enjoy in-between moto sessions. This track was also built by Sean Fogle.

Drifting is always exciting to watch, and if you’re lucky, you might be able to catch a ride. This activation was run by Terra Crew’s good friend and drifting sensei John @LooseSocksDaisuke. John laid out a rad course that had big sweepers and tight technical turns. Toward the end of the day, the drivers started making trains, which was such a cool thing to watch.

The day ended with a “final send off ” consisting of prerunners jumping over drift cars—the perfect way to cap off this awesome event.

Terra Crew plans to expand this event into multiple days, with more classes, vendors, and concerts every night. This is definitely an event you will want to attend in the coming years, and we can’t wait to see how big it gets.
