Roger Rohrdanz January 16, 2023 All Feature Vehicles
For 40 years Woodies have been gathering at this event at Moonlight Beach at the end of Encinitas Blvd in Encinitas, California, celebrating the unique vehicle called the Woodie Station Wagon.
The tranquil setting was full of Woodies, and crowded with interesting spectators. They come to this event for one of two reasons, the unique cars or the unique wood.
Many of these beautifully crafted cars have used rare and exotic woods in their restoration. Some are original, some are restored, and some were a work of imagination.
Woodies began arriving in the wee hours, and by 8:00 am there were around 300 Woodies of every size, shape, and description on display.
Throughout the day, from the Wavecrest stage, The Mar-Dels provided top-notch musical entertainment. The event finished with a fabulous raffle for prizes, and awards for the best-of-the-best.
Thanks for the Show!!
Some are original, some are restored, and some were a work of imagination.
The San Diego Woodies Club
San Diego Woodies was formed in 2001 as a chapter of the National Woodie Club. We are a 501 (c) 7 non profit organization. We exist to promote interest in woodies; to educate owners and the public on their history, beauty, usefulness and uniqueness; and to provide an association through which woodie owners and enthusiasts may exchange information on history, building, restoration or modification techniques and share experiences. The woodie is a special kind of car, which deserves special recognition.
We have several events scheduled throughout the year as well as host the largest wooden bodied car show in the country, Wavecrest. We also participate in other events held by other woodie clubs in California as well as the National Woodie Club. We encourage you to browse through our website and event calendar and come join in the fun. Membership is open to anyone and does not require that you own a woodie, only that you have a appreciation and love for these beautiful vehicles.
